WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY-2013 Synergy by Simran Vedvyas showcase efforts worthy of Recognition A praiseworthy thought and future vision for the new generations! Connecting with the theme of WED 2013 Think Eat Save, the members of SynergY youth traveled to Abu Dhabi and made a presentation to Project Officials at the construction site of upcoming NYU on Sadiyaat Abu Dhabi about “10 Ways of Reducing Food Waste” and likewise reducing the need of Landfill and saving the environment. The Presentation was well attended by many employees and communication made effective by Handouts, Posters and also distributed small food package and juices for the Construction site workers. The members also participated in the sustainability week celebration by the company Al Futtaim Carillion by donating 100 Plus Books and Finding New home for 50 Indoor Plants of this company at a school in Dubai.
The Founder of SynergY Simran Vedvyas was awarded as Winner for Tetra Pak collection drive for 2012-2013 at the Emirates Environmental Group Ceremony held on WED 2013. The Group actively participated for 2 hours in the afternoon at the Workshop and conducted Quiz sessions and student Interaction at Dubai Mall Star Atrium alongside Ministry of Environment and Water. Thereafter the members enjoyed the evening at the special screening of the Environment Movie-“EARTH” by Emirates Wildlife Society EWS at Mall of the Emirates Cinema.
SynergY, a student led initiative by Simran Vedvyas brought together over a hundred youth and children in UAE to passionately work together for a fulfilling experience during the ‘Plant for the Planet Campaign’, guided by Dubai Municipality. On one hand, the students truly lived out the connection made with flora by planting 170 trees at Landfill site in Jebel Ali, and on the other learning and gaining valuable insight about- Medical Waste and its incineration.
Plant for the Planet Campaign initiative started a month back on Earth Day 2013 by Dubai Municipality, SynergY, Super Galvanizing and Green Creations and the closing ceremony took place closer to the World Environment Day 2013. Invited on the stage at the closing Ceremony of the campaign to share the experience, Simran Vedvyas, founder of SynergY expressed her gratitude to Engineer Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department (WMD) of Dubai Municipality, and avowed that the success is a result of his support to the youth and community as a whole. She also quoted his words that “We all need to work actively and reduce the need of landfills but sadly and currently this is happening at a very slow pace”.
